Junior Hockey Wrap Up - November 6, 2016

Broden Meloche picked up two assists for the Leamington Flyers as they beat the Strathroy Rockets on the road Sunday night 5-2.

Steve Griggs would get two goals for the Rockets in the losing effort.  Scott Florence of the Flyers would use the power-play to his advantage by scoring first in the first period.  Griggs would get an extra-man goal of his own with 65 seconds left in the period.  The end of that period would be marked by a huge fight that left Matthew Stevens of the Rockets and Leamington's Zak Parlette leaving the game with game misconducts.  Lesser misconducts were also issued to Leamington's Jaydon Fetter and Sylvano Valente, as well as Strathroy's Spencer Allen and Max Ewart.

Cooler heads prevailed in the second period as the Flyers scored three straight goals.  Blake Bain, Mark Gangnon and Connor Morrison each connected within a six-minute span.  Strathroy tried to crawl back into it with Griggs' second goal of the night, coming at 13:09, but Leamington's Brett Vorshuk got that goal back at 16:52 to complete the scoring for both teams.

Leamington welcomes Lambton Shores Thursday night while Strathroy visits the London Nationals on Wednesday.

Keir Cumming scored a goal and two assists as the Blenheim Blades defeated the Petrolia Flyers at Memorial Arena 6-2 Sunday.

Dustin Maines scored first for the Blades with the only goal in the first period, with a minute and three seconds left before intermission.  Petrolia would tie it up at 9:03 in the second period on a score from Kirklin Dorman, though Cumming would score his goal only a minute and 12 seconds later.  The Flyers would get a man advantage soon after and Curtis Helps would use it to tie the score at 2-2 leading into the second interval.

The third period would be used by Blenheim to break the game wide open.  Matt Clark would score just 35 seconds in to give the Blades the lead for good.  Carter Wright, Nick Delyzer and Zach Horvath would also light the lamp for the Blades.

Blenheim travels to the Libro Centre Saturday night to face Amherstburg while Petrolia hosts Lakeshore Thursday.

Trevor Waller would score two goals for the Wallaceburg Lakers, but they would fall to the Wheatley Omstead Sharks at home 7-4 Sunday night.

Scoring in this game would not commence until the last three minutes of the third period.  Andreas Grossman would start things off with a goal for Wheatley at 17:35, and Wallaceburg's Cory Lucier would tie it right back up just 23 seconds later.

Wheatley regained the lead at exactly one minute into the second period with Mitchell Prudence's goal.  Nolan Farr would knot it up for the Lakers just 45 seconds after that.  Both teams would exchange goals within 30 seconds of each other, as Nick Tavolieri-Essex found the net for Wheatley and then Waller would score his first goal.  The Sharks would then score three unanswered goals, from Cole Butler, Antonio Ciampa and Waller's second goal, so the score at the second intermission was 6-4 in favor of Wheatley.  The Sharks' Justin Pinsonneault would throw one in for good measure for the only goal of the third period.

Wheatley hosts Lakeshore Monday night, while Wallaceburg welcomes Mooretown Wednesday.
