Junior Hockey Wrap Up - October 30, 2016

Steven Sartor scored twice and picked up an assist, while Colin Sartor added two assists as the Lakeshore Canadiens beat the Dresden Kings 9-3 Sunday afternoon at Lambton-Kent Memorial Centre.

The Kings did score first on Dillon Liberty's tally at 4:15 of the first period, but Lakeshore responded with five unanswered goals of their own before the period was out.  Steven Sartor's goal came at 5:40 in the first.  This was followed in the ninth minute by goals scored 24 seconds apart from Mejoe Gasparovic and Jake Nimmo.  Goals by Brandon Ireland and Colton Coates of the Canadiens closed out the first 20 minutes.

Dresden tried to crawl back into the contest in the second period, scoring two goals in a row.  Macks Holmes made it 5-2 just 29 seconds into the period, and Kevin Ritzer put one in with the man disadvantage at 4:29.   Lakeshore became dominant again with three more unanswered goals in the middle period, beginning with J.J. Percy at 11:39, followed by Steven Sartor's second goal and a shorthanded goal from Kyler Carter.  Michael Long completed the onslaught in the third period for the final score.

Mitch Topliffe faced 34 Dresden shots, turning away 31 of them.  Joel Sowinski was in the crease for Dresden for the first two periods before Cam MacAlpine took over for the third.

Both teams are back in action Friday night.  Lakeshore welcomes Wheatley to the Atlas Tube Centre while Dresden hosts the Essex 73s.

Griffin Robinson scored two goals as the Leamington Flyers doubled up the visiting Sarnia Legionnaires 4-2 Sunday night.

The win puts the Flyers in a tie with the LaSalle Vipers for first in the GOJHL Junior B Western Conference standings with 25 points.  The Legionnaires are fifth in the conference with 18 points.

Sarnia did all of its goal scoring in the first period, giving themselves a 2-0 lead with Joey Zappa and Sam McCormack both putting the puck in the net.  The rest of the game's offensive tone was defined by the Flyers.  Robinson's first goal of the night came at 6:25 in the first period, but it would not be until Jaydon Fetter's power-play goal in the second period that the score would be even at two-all.

The winning goal did not occur until late in the third period when Zak Parlette lit the lamp at 18:14.  Sarnia goalie Jorgen Johnson was pulled for the extra-attacker and Robinson scored an empty-netter with just one second left in the game.

Connor Meyerink was the goalie for the victorious Flyers, stopping 18 of 20 Sarnia shots.  The Legionnaires take their turn Wednesday and host the Flyers at Sarnia Arena.

Matthew Rosati scored a third-period goal and contributed two assists as the Essex 73s beat the Blenheim Blades in Blenheim 4-2.

Bryce Broad's power-play goal at 7:48 in the first period put Blenheim on the board first.  Keir Cumming would pad the Blades lead with a goal of his own at 11:56.  The 73s would have the score tied at 2-2 before the first period was over, though.  Eric Shaw scored on the power-play at 15 minutes flat and Riley Meyerink scored the equalizer at just one second left in the stanza.

Neither team scored in the second period, but Essex's William Stadder earned himself a game misconduct for boarding.  In the third, Blake McConville would give the 73s the lead for good with a goal at 2:40.  Rosatti's insurance goal was notched at 10:44 on the power-play.  The 73s were two-for-six with the extra-man advantage.

The Blades now rest up for their next game, next Sunday night when Petrolia comes to town.
