Junior Hockey Wrap Up - October 14, 2016

Matt Clark scored twice as the Blenheim Blades shut out the Lakeshore Canadiens 4-0 Friday night at the Atlas Tube Centre.

Clark's goals came four minutes and seven seconds apart in the second period of the contest.

Nate Broek got the Blades on the board first, scoring with just 52 seconds left in the first period.  The game would be put out of reach by Clark's twin goals, and the insurance goal came in the third off the stick of Owen Bateman, an empty-netter with 30 seconds left in regulation.

Eric Stewardson collected the shutout between the pipes for Blenheim, turning away all 37 Lakeshore shots.  Mitch Topliffe was the goalie for Lakeshore.

Blenheim plays host to Wallaceburg Sunday night while Lakeshore is on the road Wednesday against Mooretown.

It took just 32 seconds past regulation for the Dresden Kings to beat the Essex 73s 3-2 at Lambton Kent Memorial Centre.

The overtime winner was the crown jewel of a hat trick from Kevin Ritzer, who singlehandedly put the Kings ahead 2-0 in the first period by scoring both goals in those first 20 minutes.

The 73s would counter in the third period with all of their scoring coming from Tyler Scott, both of them unassisted.

Joel Sowinski was the winner in the crease for Dresden while Tyler Ryan took the loss in goal for Essex.

Dresden visits Amherstburg Sunday night while Essex travels to Wheatley Monday.
