St. Clair Introduces Basketball Head Coach

St. Clair College hopes the introduction of Luc Stevenson as head coach of its Varsity Men's Basketball team will raise the school's athletic profile.

Stevenson comes to Windsor from Red Deer College in Alberta where he was an assistant coach. At Medicine Hat College, Stevenson helped coach the Rattlers to a 9-11 league record and a playoff berth, the team's best result in over a decade. He also served as an assistant coach at Brock University.

The Oakville native calls Windsor a "hotbed" for basketball. "I think it's a really untapped market," he says. "I think with the Lancer women's program winning five straight CIS national championships, I think that's garnering more attention."

Expect to see Stevenson out and about in Windsor as he builds the team. "I've just got to be out in the gyms. There's a lot of tournaments coming up in the OBAs and the AUs, and I have a lot of contacts province-wide." He also says he has a few leads on players from out of province.

While the college's new Sportsplex helps make the pitch for St. Clair easier, he also hopes to foster a team culture that will attract talent.
