Replica gun, drugs seized from suspects in road rage incident

Essex OPP have charged two people from Windsor accused of producing a firearm to another driver in an act of road rage late Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the altercation happened at around 3:40 p.m. when officers responded to a report of road rage along the westbound 401 at Puce Road near Lakeshore. During the incident, what appeared to be a gun, was allegedly shown to the other motorist, police said.

Lakeshore OPP said members of the Tecumseh Detachment helped located the suspect vehicle and its occupants a short time later on Manning Road at County Road 42 in Tecumseh. A driver and a passenger were arrested without incident.

No injuries or property damage was reported during the incident.

During a search, police seized a replica firearm and unspecified quantities of illegal drugs.

Two 22-year-olds from Windsor are jointly charged with careless use of a firearm, assault with a weapon, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose and possession of a schedule one substance, an opioid (other than heroin).

The two accused were released from custody with a future court date in Windsor.
