Windsor Salt bargaining makes slow progress with no face-to-face meetings in months

Bargaining units for Unifor Local 1959 and Local 240 are making slow progress on reaching a collective agreement for Windsor Salt employees.

The employees have been on the picket line for 110 days.

Unifor Local 1959 President Bill Wark indicated they are sharing proposals with the company but have not met in person since the end of April.

"The face-to-face bargaining hasn't occurred since March and it is a tremendously poor way of trying to achieve a fair and equitable collective agreement," said Wark.

Despite the slow progress and long days on the picket line, Wark says morale among workers is still high in large part to community support.

As of Monday afternoon, there were no in-person negotiations scheduled between the two parties.

The 250 employees walked off the job on February 17. A main point of contention has been the issue of outsourcing jobs.

"There has been some movement but there's a long way to go in regards to getting a collective agreement," said Wark.
