Humane Society fundraiser kicks off Thursday

A fundraiser for the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society is back after a three-year hiatus.

The Strays on Streetcorners fundraiser, back after being put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, starts on Thursday. Volunteers will be stationed at 14 intersections across Windsor-Essex to collect donations from people in passing vehicles.

"The summer months are typically the busiest at the humane society, with an influx of animals coming through the shelter’s doors in need of care, while donations are lower during these critical months than other times of the year," read a release from the humane society.

Along with donating in person, animal lovers can use their phones and give a one-time $10 donation, by texting "STRAYS" to 22222.

Strays on Streetcorners is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the humane society. At the most recent event, in 2019, over $30,000 was raised.

The fundraiser runs through Saturday.
