What roads are the worst in Windsor? CAA campaign reveals all

Does Windsor have the worst roads in Ontario? Maybe not, but four in the city placed in this year's top five in the Southwest according to this year's CAA's Worst Roads campaign.

CAA released the results of its Worst Roads campaign on Tuesday morning after drivers across the province voted on the streets they love to hate the most.

Province-wide, seven roads in the Greater Toronto Area placed in the top ten. Hamilton's Barton Street East had the most complaints, while Eglington Avenue West in Toronto and County Road 49 in Prince Edward County rounded out the three most despised roadways.

In the Southwest Region, which includes Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, and Sarnia-Lambton, Windsor's own Lauzon Parkway placed number one.

Plank Road in Sarnia was second, while Tecumseh Road East, University Avenue West, and Sandwich Street in Windsor came in third, fourth, and fifth.

"The 2023 CAA Worst Roads campaign provides a valuable snapshot of the roads that the public perceives as pain points," said Assistant Vice President for CAA South Central Ontario Teresa Di Felice. "For 20 years, this campaign has served as a powerful advocacy tool, initiating dialogues with decision-makers and driving positive change for safer roads in Ontario."

Many of the "winners" of past campaigns have undergone significant improvements.

The Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario verified this year's results.

"The campaign highlights once again the need for dedicated funding to address the state-of-good-repair and maintenance of critical infrastructure needed to support our growing province," said Executive Director Nadia Todorova.

Earlier this month, Windsor Police stepped up enforcement at ten Windsor intersections deemed the most dangerous. They cited Tecumseh Road East at four spots, including at Lauzon Parkway.
