Off-duty Windsor officers credited for weapons arrest

Two off-duty Windsor police officers are being lauded for detaining a suspect who was later arrested for carrying weapons in a park.

According to LaSalle police, a person was seen in Turtle Club Park with a knife and a pistol on Saturday.

Off-duty Windsor Constables Talya Natyshak and Kris Lauzon happened to be at the park, watching their children playing in a baseball game.

"The suspect proceeded to retrieve an airsoft gun from his waistband and fired it toward a nearby, residential backyard," read a post on the official Windsor police Instagram account. "Without hesitation, our officers took immediate action to protect the safety of the children playing baseball as well as everyone else in the surrounding area."

The post said Constable Lauzon identified himself as a police officer and held the suspect at bay. Both Lauzon and Natyshak restrained him until on-duty LaSalle officers arrived. No one was hurt.

In addition to the airsoft gun, police found a six-inch knife on the suspect.

A 21-year-old man has been charged, but it was not disclosed what charges the man faces.
