Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens gathered stakeholders in the community to encourage the federal government to finalize the agreement with Stellantis and LG for the NextStar Energy plant.
Municipal partners, economic development officials, and union representatives all gathered at Windsor City Hall to show a united front.
"We are all in because we understand the importance of this to our community, to our region. We understand the importance of this to our province and to our country as well. That's why we have to get this project over the finish line," said Dilkens.
Dilkens will introduce a notice of motion at Monday's Windsor City Council meeting to formally request the federal government to end the current stalemate.
"No one is blaming the City of Windsor for not matching IRA incentives. We know who's responsible here and that is the federal government. They are the only ones to have the capacity to follow through on the commitment they made, which is to match the IRA incentives with our largest employer, and we're going to hold their feet to the fire," said Dilkens.
Dilkens emphasized the city is counting on all pieces of the original deal, the cell production plant, module plant and the research and development component.
Meanwhile, Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk reiterated Monday morning that a deal was close. During a Zoom call with reporters, Kusmierczyk said a deal will get done, but he could not provide a timeline on when an announcement will be made.
