Tecumseh Corn Festival returns

The Tecumseh Corn Festival is back this August, but those who go will notice some significant changes.

The first change is the name. It's now called the Tecumseh Corn and Music Festival.

The St. Clair Beach Optimist Club has taken over, and President Monica Muscadere describes it as two festivals in one.

"We have an open component where we have our food vendors. Where you can purchase items that they make and our family fun fair," said Muscadere. "And our separate music component, which will have a ticketing system, and it'll be 19-plus."

Muscadere said the club is still trying to iron out some details, including whether the age restriction will begin at 8 p.m.

"There will be alcohol available. We are currently working with a couple of local breweries and distilleries," she said while alluding to the issue of underage drinking and liability.

While the music festival focuses on local acts, the family-friendly event will showcase local food and craft vendors.

"Hopefully, we have a sponsorship so we can keep a free gate," Muscadere added.

She also hopes people will remember this is the first time the club is operating the event. It won't be as big as in past years.

The event's date hasn't changed. It's still the last weekend before Labour Day, from August 25 to August 27.
