Michigan emergency officials simulate plane crash on Detroit River

If you live in Amherstburg, you might see a lot of action on the Detroit River on Wednesday.

Divers from 21 Michigan counties are participating in an emergency exercise across from Bois Blanc Island.

The U.S. Coast Guard, Customs and Border Protection, and several police services are retrieving wreckage from a simulated small plane crash.

The Township of Grosse Ile said the exercise is focused west of Hickory Island, south of the Grosse Ile Municipal Airport.

According to FOX 2, it's the largest diving team exercise ever staged in Michigan.

The township said the exercise started at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and should wrap up at 1 p.m.
