Nominations open for prestigious nursing award

Has a nurse provided you or a loved one with excellent care over the last year?

Nominations are open for the 16th annual Lois Fairley Nursing Award.

The award is given to a nurse in Windsor-Essex County who made a difference in a patient's life or in their community.

To nominate someone you are asked to submit a story about how they impacted the life of a patient, a family, their workplace, or their community. The story must be submitted in 500 words or less.

The award is named for Lois Fairley, who was a graduate of Grace Hospital's nursing program in 1955. She spent her career serving patients and the community. Fairley passed away in 2007 and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario instituted the award for Windsor-Essex in 2008.

The nomination form can be found here. Submissions will be accepted until Friday, April 20 at 5 p.m.

The award will be presented during Nurses Week, May 8-14.

Last year, the award was given to nurses who came out of retirement to help the community through the COVID-19 pandemic.
