St. Clair College to test emergency communications system

Over the past couple of weeks, St. Clair College has encouraged staff, students, and faculty to upload an app to their phones designed to help it communicate with those on campus during an emergency.

The college, working with Windsor Police and Chatham-Kent Police, organized the exercise to test the emergency communication system.

The first test is on Tuesday morning on its campus in Downtown Windsor.

At 10:15 a.m., students, staff, and faculty should receive a text message on the Alertus app and their computer screens.

The test for the South Campus in Windsor is at 10:15 a.m. on April 6.

There will also be a test at 2:15 p.m. on April 13 for those at the Chatham Campus.

When they receive the message, students in class and staff in their offices will watch a video produced by the college instructing them about what to do should there be an active attacker on campus.

"This is a communication exercise only," said a release from St. Clair College. "No one is expected to run, hide or fight during this exercise."
