Ice storm branch collections continue in Windsor, Essex

The ice storm was last month, but some Windsor-Essex municipalities are still picking up the pieces.

The City of Windsor has announced that crews will be picking up branches and other debris left behind by the February 22 ice storm, which caused damage across the region and left thousands of people without hydro.

The Town of Essex, meanwhile, has announced that branch pickup is winding down and should wrap up by the end of the month.

If you live in Windsor and still have large branches, the 311 service will take appointments through 4 p.m. Monday. The collection will begin Tuesday and will take seven to ten days. The City will only collect branches at least three inches, or 7.6 centimetres, in diameter. Residents should ensure branches are neatly laid along the curb and not scattered or in the street, sidewalk, or driveway.

Meanwhile, in Essex, the collection will end on Friday in the Town's urban centres. In the rural areas and along rural roads, it will end by March 31. Residents should again bundle branches and lay them out neatly for pickup. Any debris that isn't bundled properly or not a result of the ice storm will not be collected.

Essex residents can also drop off debris without cost at any EWSWA depot. Visit the EWSWA website for details.

The City of Windsor reported that over 55 tons of yard waste and fallen branches were have been collected so far.
