Contract talks resume Wednesday at Windsor Salt

Talks are expected to start again Wednesday, with the hope of ending a month-long strike at Windsor Salt.

Unifor Locals 1959 and 240, which represent workers at the west Windsor plant, reported last week that they were willing to return to the bargaining table with the owner, Stone Canyon.

"The union and the company are optimistic that they will be able to work together constructively to reach a collective agreement that is fair and equitable," read a statement issued jointly by the locals last week.

Over 250 employees assigned to the plant and the evaporation pond walked off the job on February 17. Unifor has accused Stone Canyon of holding out for an agreement on the outside contracting of work before it would discuss any financial matters.

Plant employees held a rally outside Windsor City Hall last Thursday, and Unifor had asked the provincial government for help in ending the stalemate.
