An Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) marine operator from Windsor-Essex has been honoured for his work in keeping marinas safe.
Constable James (J.J.) Lyman has been named Marine Professional of the Year by the Canadian Safe Boating Council. Lyman was presented with his award at a dinner last week in Toronto.
"We are very proud of Constable Lyman's accomplishment. He is dedicated to marine safety by providing the highest standard of relevant training to our law enforcement partners across Ontario," said OPP Essex County Detachment Commander Inspector Angela Ferguson. "This award reflects his commitment to keeping our waterways safe for everyone."

Lyman's chief responsibility is conducting training courses in marine safety and technique for law enforcement agencies in Canada and the U.S. He became a certified marine instructor for the OPP in 2017.
The constable first joined the OPP in 2006, and has been working out of Essex County since 2008. Lyman is also an active Shiprider member, or formally an Integrated Cross Border Maritime Law Enforcement Officer.
The council presents its annual awards each January, recognizing those who help keep boating safe in Canada while protecting the environment.
