Windsor police investigating 'grandparent' scam (VIDEO)

Windsor police have asked the public for help in identifying a person believed to be involved in the "grandparent scam".

Investigators received a complaint from a resident, who reported that on Tuesday, someone claiming to be a police officer called to say that the victim's grandson had been arrested.

"$15,000 in cash was needed to get him out of jail," read a tweet from Windsor police. "The suspect [pictured below] then drove to the victim’s house, located in the 10000 block of Mulberry Drive [near Forest Glade Drive], to retrieve the money."

Security camera footage showed the man parking across the street, then walking to the house. The man then returned to the vehicle and drove away.

The suspect is described as a Black male, aged 20 to 30 years old, standing about six feet tall. He was wearing a white jacket with a camo print, a white hat, and white shoes. He was driving a white minivan.

If you have been a victim of this scam or can identify the man or his vehicle, call the Windsor police financial crimes unit at (519) 255-6700, ext. 4330. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477), to be eligible for a cash reward.
