No agreement for Highbury Canco employees

Contract negotiations at Highbury Canco in Leamington have reached an impasse.

According to a memo to members of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 175, the bargaining committee met with the employer on January 20 and the parties were not able to reach a settlement.

The union and the employer will be in a legal strike/lockout position on February 13, 2023.

In November, 99.9 per cent of employees voted in favour of striking at a meeting held at the Leamington Portuguese Club. At that time, Sam Caetano with UFCW told Windsor News Today that wages were the major sticking point in negotiations.

The union represents around 800 employees at the facility. They have been working without a contract for around a year.

The union will hold another meeting on February 11 to vote on a final offer from the employer or prepare for job action.
