WPS looking for long-term trends in crime data

Overall criminal activity in Windsor and Amherstburg was down in 2022 compared to 2021.

The number of criminal occurences recorded by the Windsor Police Service was down 3.06 per cent.

"We had less calls for service in 2022, and generally our month over month, year over year, crime is generally down," said Windsor Police Chief Jason Bellaire. "We are at times optimistic, but we are looking at trends."

Despite the overall trend, Bellaire said the service needs to take a closer look at long-term numbers.

'It's bigger bites of information over longer periods of time that give us the ability to use our analytics to apply our strategies and apply our resources and our assets to it. For the moment, it's a good news story, but next month the statistics might show us something different."

Reports analyzing five-year trends in the community will be presented to the Windsor Police Service Board at a future meeting.
