A local community has gone green with its ice surfaces.
The Municipality of Leamington has unveiled its new, fully-electric Zamboni, to be used for the ice at the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre. The vehicle was introduced last week.
The Zamboni is a new Model 650, sponsored by Grossi Construction. It replaces the gas-powered vehicle that cleaned the facility's ice since 2001 and represents a growing trend at ice arenas across the country.
According to the Municipality, the machine can clean the ice up to 25 times without a recharge.
Not only will the zero-emission Zamboni eliminate gasoline for power, saving the community money in fuel costs, but it will also contribute to cleaner air for those who use the arena.
