LaSalle Police collar hot rod driver on Front Road

A driver in LaSalle faces a $2,000 fine for allegedly speeding twice the speed limit on Front Road on Wednesday afternoon.

That's on top of the fee he'll have to pay to reinstate his license and any increase in insurance costs if he's convicted.

A LaSalle Police officer was conducting radar traffic enforcement that afternoon when he clocked a black Volkswagen Jetta at 101 km/h. The speed limit on that stretch of Front Road is just 50 km/h.

The officer suspended the driver's license for 30 days, after which he'll have to pay $281 at Service Ontario before he can drive legally again.

If convicted, the driver could face another, more lengthy license suspension in addition to the larger fine.
