Christmas returns to Tecumseh Friday

The holiday season returns in full force to Tecumseh this weekend.

After two years of modified programming due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town is bringing back its full-blown "Christmas in Tecumseh" event Friday night, complete with a Santa Parade and holiday-themed activities in and around Tecumseh Town Hall and Tecumseh Arena.

The event's centrepiece is the parade and arrival of the jolly old elf from the North Pole. The march will feature bands, floats, decorative vehicles, local dance troupes, and community groups. The parade will step off at 6 p.m. on Lacasse Boulevard at Clapp, head south on Lacasse to Tecumseh Road East, then west over the train tracks to Lesperance Road, and finally north to end at Town Hall.

Street parking along the parade route will not be allowed from 4 p.m. Friday until early Saturday morning. Detours will be in place.

After Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive at Town Hall, the rest of the evening activities will begin. At Tecumseh Arena, Santa and Mrs. Claus will greet visitors in the Centre Ice Room. There will be hayrides in the parking lot with musical accompaniment by The Myskow Brothers, a marshmallow roast, face-painting and balloon animals, holiday arts and crafts, and public skating. There will also be complimentary hot dogs, chips, coffee, and hot chocolate while supplies last.

Visitors are invited to test their golf skills with a putt-putt course at Town Centre Park and bring their lawn chairs and blankets for an outdoor screening of the film Mickey's Once Upon A Christmas, sponsored by Pathway to Potential.

Tecumseh Fire and Rescue will host an open house at its Lesperance fire hall.

If you're going, be sure to dress warmly. Environment Canada is calling for a few clouds Friday evening with a low of -8 C.

Complete information on Friday night's program can be found on the Town of Tecumseh's official website.
