St. Clair College esports team heads to finals in Philly

The esports program at St. Clair College has notched another achievement, an invitation to national finals.

The Saints' League of Legends team has earned a trip to the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) National Finals in Philadelphia.

St. Clair College got to that point by completing a perfect regular season and entering the national tournament as a third seed. They first shut out the University of Kansas in the quarterfinals, then went to the semifinals where they shut out Florida Southern College. Each was by a 2-0 score.

League of Legends Head Coach Yuri Custodio said he has watched this team come together all season.

"The growth of this team has been incredible to watch. The hunger to win, the drive to improve and unrelenting effort to ensure success has been unmatched," said Custodio.

The Saints will take on top-seeded Marysville University in the NACE Finals, which take place in Philadelphia on December 3 and 4.

League of Legends is a multiplayer online arena game, where teams of players participate in combat and control assorted characters.
