Recovery program to be launched for at-risk LGBTQ+ youth

A group of Windsor-Essex organizations will launch a new recovery initiative in the new year.

The Windsor Family Health Team, Windsor Pride Community, and Family Services Windsor Essex (FSWE) have teamed up to create the new 2SLGBTQ+ One Team Recovery (OTR) Program, which is set to debut in January 2023.

The program was created to address a gap between local substance abuse services and the LGBTQ+ community.

"This program has been designed through an affirmative care lens using a trauma-informed approach and aims to provide a safe space for the 2SLGBTQ+ community to participate in and receive dedicated outpatient care for substance use," read the program's webpage.

The tentative launch date for the program is January 10. The program runs for three-and-a-half hours, two days a week for five weeks. Those who complete the program receive a certificate.

One Team Recovery is offered through the Windsor Team Care Centre and is designed to help those in recovery moderate or abstain from substances. Group sessions make up the bulk of the program, though one-on-one sessions are also available for those who don't already have access to individual counselling.

Complete information about the OTR program can be found on the Windsor Team Care Centre's official website.
