Want to know more about Windsor's proposed national urban park?

City of Windsor staff and Parks Canada officials can answer any questions about the Ojibway Shores National Urban Park at an upcoming open house meeting.

The open house is at the Ojibway Nature Centre on Malden Road on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Officials will have information boards outlining the draft study area of the proposed park and will answer questions about the designation process.

The public can supply feedback through a survey.

Parks Canada plans to create a network of national urban parks across the country, and Ojibway Shores National Urban Park will be the second.

The first was Rouge National Urban Park in the Greater Toronto area, which includes the only campground in Toronto.

Legislation to create the new park in Windsor has passed the second reading in the House of Commons.

Windsor Ward 1 Councillor Fred Francis and Caldwell First Nation Chief Mark Duckworth recently appeared before a House committee at the end of October. The committee is the last step before the legislation goes for third and final reading before heading to the Senate.

In the provincial legislature, the Ford government has expressed support for the park. A motion to transfer ownership of the Ojibway Prairie Nature Reserve to Parks Canada is up for a vote this month.
