Another Windsor incumbent throws support behind new hospital

A Windsor city councillor seeking another four-year term has affirmed support for the region's new acute-care hospital.

At a news conference, Wednesday at the County Road 42 hospital site, Ward 7's Jeewen Gill revealed his hospital position as the next plank of his re-election platform.

Gill was not on council when the zoning application for the hospital site was approved, but he said progress made on the site so far convinced him that those involved did the right thing when it came to choosing the hospital location.

“In the last term, we have hit a milestone in the next phase of the long-awaited hospital project. With great leadership and teamwork, we will keep the momentum going to make this a reality for the residents of Windsor so that they can have access to world-class medical services right here in our city," said Gill in a media release.

Gill also pledged to work with council colleagues and the mayor to ensure that the hospital project stays on track.

The Ward 7 incumbent is running for a four-year term in his own right, after being elected in an October 2020 by-election to succeed Irek Kusmierczyk, who was elected Windsor-Tecumseh MP.

Gill is being challenged in Ward 7 by Sydney Brouillard-Coyle, Greg Lemay, Angelo Marginani, and Sophia Sevo.

The election is set for Monday, October 24.
