Planning and design firm selected for new acute care hospital

Windsor Regional Hospital has checked another thing off its list for planning the new acute care hospital.

Stantec Architecture has been selected as the planning, design, and conformance consultant.

"They're going to be with us until we complete this project. They are going to be the team that is going to be working with us to make sure we design a hospital that can fit the function that we've come up with regarding the programs and services," said Windsor Regional Hospital CEO David Musyj.

The consultant will work with the user groups to start developing early design plans and cost estimates for the project.

The goal is to submit the drawings, functional program requests, and early cost estimates to the Ministry of Health in early 2023 for approval.

While visiting Windsor this week, Health Minister Sylvia Jones said the province will not delay this project.

"We will not delay your acute care hospital. We want to see this built and we want to see this project completed," said Jones. "We're here, we're a partner and we will make sure that this project gets to completion."

It's estimated construction could begin in 2027.

"Is there a possibility to go sooner than 2027? Yes, that's in the timeline, there is a little gap there that it could be escalated a bit," said Musyj.
