Catholic board, UHC Hub show off new resource centre

West Windsor residents now have a one-stop destination for job hunting and accessing social services.

The UHC-Hub of Opportunities and the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board (WECDSB) have come together to create the new Resource Information Centre, located at St. Michael's Catholic Adult High School on Detroit Street.

June Muir, CEO of the UHC-Hub of Opportunities, said the centre is open to high school and university students, as well as those living in the neighbourhood.

"The Resource and Information Centre will offer both students, and any members of the nearby community access to a variety of resources that will allow them to thrive as they enter the workforce," said Muir. "We work closely with our clients, to understand their realities, and help move them to independence."

The centre will provide guidance for visitors on job searching, employment counselling, access to training programs, and basic human needs services. Clients will have access to computers, telephones, the internet, and labour market information. Staff will be on hand to provide job search assistance, as well as clothing and food assistance where applicable.

Emelda Byrne, WECDSB Director of Education, said St. Michael's is the ideal location for the centre.

"Many of the adult students who attend St. Michael’s are here to finish their high school diploma so they can either move on to post-secondary education or enter the workforce," said Byrne. "The services that this new centre offers will greatly enhance the programming that we offer here in an easily accessible location. This is an ideal partnership for our school board and our students."

The centre is open on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
