Housing sales drop 42 per cent in August

Real estate agents in Windsor and Essex County are still listing a lot of properties for sale, but selling them has become more of a challenge.

Sales dropped 42.12 per cent last month from August 2021.

A total of 679 properties changed hands a year ago compared to 393 in August, the same number that sold in July of this year.

So far this year, the Windsor Essex County Association of Realtors said sales dropped by 16.4 per cent from 2021.

However, real estate agents listed 1,057 properties in August, an increase of 5.8 per cent from the same month in 2021. Listings are still up 22.31 per cent so far this year.

There was a drop in the average price of a new home in the region. That fell from $568,253 in August 2021 to $520,634, a decrease of 8.38 per cent.

So far this year, prices have climbed 18.69 per cent.
