Essex County OPP repeats warning about unlocked vehicles

Ontario Provincial Police are looking into multiple complaints about items taken from parked vehicles.

Throughout the morning hours of Thursday, OPP officers investigated numerous calls about missing items that were left in vehicles parked in Tecumseh and Lakeshore.

The OPP is once again reminding people to make sure their vehicles are locked when they leave them, even if only for a few minutes.

The calls came the same week as the Essex County OPP announced a 63 per cent increase year-to-year in vehicle theft. Police said the majority of those thefts have been because the owner left their vehicle unlocked, or left the keys inside.

Anyone with information about any of the reported incidents is urged to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
