Dilkens optimistic about government agenda

After listening to the Speech from the Throne from the floor of the legislature, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens is optimistic the government will deliver on promises made during the election.

"The things they talked about in the campaign, it wasn't just puffery, they're actually being actioned now, and the budget that was tabled today talks about those actions, and how they are going to fund them to make them real," said Dilkens.

Dilkens said he was pleased to see a recommitment to the new acute care hospital in Windsor and investments in electric vehicle manufacturing.

"We heard great news with respect to the battery factory, and the work that will be done to uncover some of the real critical minerals we have in Ontario that will give us a real competitive advantage," said Dilkens.

During the throne speech, the Conservative government committed to working with municipalities to leverage surplus provincial land to build new attainable housing.

Dilkens said he looking forward to working with the province on this initiative.

"If they're a willing partner to help us do that I think that would help leverage the private sector to make investments. That would build more houses, including affordable housing and attainable housing, and actually make life better here," said Dilkens.
