LaSalle police investigate hit and run crash

Police in LaSalle are looking to identify a driver who appeared to be involved in a hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist and a dog.

It happened just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday at Huron Church Line and St. Francis Street. Police said the cyclist was travelling through the intersection on Huron Church while walking his dog. An SUV travelled east on St. Francis, briefly stopped at the stop sign, then entered the intersection, causing a crash with the cyclist.

According to Senior Constable Terry Seguin, the SUV stopped briefly in the intersection before leaving the scene northbound on Huron Church. The bicyclist suffered minor injuries and was treated by paramedics. The dog also suffered minor injuries and was checked out by a veterinarian.

The vehicle is described as a dark-coloured SUV, perhaps a Porsche. The male driver was described as being in their 30s or 40s, clean cut, and wearing a white shirt and blue pants. A child may have been in the rear seat at the time of the crash, and the vehicle may have some damage to the front driver’s side.

Security camera footage of the crash was obtained by police, and investigators are asking anyone in the area to check their surveillance or dashcam footage for anything unusual.

Anyone with information is asked to call LaSalle police at (519) 969-5210. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (519) 258-TIPS (8477).
