Two Leamington men arrested on gun charges in Windsor

Windsor police have arrested two men after firearms were found during a search Monday night.

Members of the Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Unit were patrolling along University Avenue East near Caesars Windsor at around 8 p.m. Officers were investigating a man that had warrants out for his arrest. A vehicle associated with the suspect was found and stopped a short distance away.

According to Constable Bianca Jackson, officers approaching the vehicle spotted a man appearing to hide a firearm. Both the man and his passenger were arrested. A search uncovered two firearms, an airsoft replica handgun, and an unspecified quantity of illicit drugs.

Both men, aged 35 and 40 and from Leamington, are each charged with two counts apiece of occupying a vehicle with a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, possessing a loaded firearm, contravening the Firearms Act, and possessing a restricted firearm without a licence. The 40-year-old man is also charged with two counts of failure to comply with a release order, and one count of possession of a schedule substance.

The charges have not been proven in court.
