Capture of theft suspect leads police back to fraud investigation

Windsor Police give credit to witnesses for the quick capture of an armed suspect.

Officers on patrol were investigating a theft from a business on Langlois Avenue at Ottawa Street and made the arrest thanks to the descriptions provided by witnesses at the scene.

During the investigation, they found out the suspect had a knife and threatened an employee who was following him after he fled the business.

When they found the suspect, they recovered the stolen property along with two credit cards and a debit card in someone else's name. The cards were reported stolen but had been used in several fraudulent transactions on July 7.

Police are still investigating the fraud at several businesses on Ouellette Avenue.

Investigators would like to look at security camera footage from anyone along Ouellette Avenue.

A 33-year-old man is charged with theft under $5,000, assault with a weapon, failure to comply with a probation order, and possession of property obtained by crime.
