Dilkens defends insert in property tax bill

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens says he will not apologize for distributing City of Windsor communications with this year's tax bill.

If you received your property tax bill last week you may have seen a number of pamphlets included with your bill. One of them included a picture of Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens and listed a number of accomplishments in the city over the last year.

With this being an election year, people have noted this could be seen as campaigning on the city's dime by the mayor.

"I'm not running a campaign. I am the mayor of the city and I'm communicating with the residents of the city. The campaign, the election is not until October. I am not a candidate for that election. I am worried about governing and I'm communicating with my residents and I don't apologize for it," said Dilkens.

Dilkens has not yet filed papers to run in the upcoming election.

"I'm not a candidate in this election yet and I may never be. But you will know by the date in August and that will determine whether I am going to be a candidate or not," said Dilkens.

The last day to file nomination papers is August 19, 2022. The municipal election will be held on October 24, 2022.
