Woman arrested after allegedly stealing running vehicle

Windsor police have arrested a 30-year-old woman who they said stole an unattended, running vehicle.

It happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. Saturday. Officers responded to the area of Dougall Avenue and Cabana Road West for a motor vehicle theft that had just taken place. The victim told police he had left the vehicle running while they ran into a business, and it was gone when he returned a few minutes later.

Officers spotted the vehicle an hour later on North Service Road, with the suspect in the front seat.

The Windsor resident is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. The charge has not been proven in court.

Police are using this incident to advise the community to use common sense when parking a vehicle, even if only for a minute.

"A stolen vehicle can pose a danger to the entire community," said Constable Bianca Jackson. "Windsor Police strongly advise the public that vehicles should never be left unattended with their engines running."
