Final Bob Probert Ride attracts 1,200 motorcyclists

Twelve years after his death, the tenth and final Bob Probert Ride attracted 1,200 motorcyclists raising money for cardiac, mental health, and addiction programs at Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare.

"Ultimately, we have decided as a family that this tenth year, 12 years after Bob's passing, was the final year of The Bob Probert Ride," said the NHL enforcer's widow, Dani Probert. "All good things must come to an end."

The fundraiser has raised more than $1.2-million over the past decade.

"From contributions to the angioplasty suite at Ouellette Campus, to exercise equipment at the Petro Family Cardiac Wellness and the establishment of a satellite cardiac wellness program in Tecumseh, on behalf of our hospital, our patients, clients, loved ones and community at large, thank you to everyone who for the last decade has made The Bob Probert Ride what it is today," said Executive Director of the Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare Foundation Barbara Sebben on Sunday.

Sunday's ride included a classic car show that showcased Probert's '71 Chevelle LS6 and 100 other automobile relics.

Probert died in 2010 of a heart attack while boating on Lake St. Clair with his family. He was 45. During his 17-year NHL career, he played for the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks, where he accrued 3,300 penalty minutes in over 900 games.  While Probert was best known for his role as an enforcer, he also had 163 goals and 221 assists.
