County, Sun Parlour Home employees reach tentative deal

The union representing employees at a Leamington long-term care facility has come to terms with Essex County.

CUPE Local 860 announced Friday afternoon that it had reached a tentative agreement with the County. The union represents 300 employees at the Sun Parlour Home in Leamington.

The previous agreement ran out in March, but the employees kept working as discussions took place, described in a media release as "positive and productive".

"I would like to thank the union representatives for engaging in constructive discussions around the negotiating table and for so ably representing the interests of Sun Parlour Home employees, who have stood so strong during the pandemic," said Essex County Human Resources Director Kristie Cronin.

CUPE National Representative Suanne Hawkins praised the constructive dialogue during the talks and thanked the employees for their loyalty during the pandemic.

"This tentative agreement respects the hard work being done on a daily basis by the compassionate workers at Sun Parlor Home, and it was achieved thanks to the diligent efforts of representatives from the union and the County of Essex," said Hawkins.

Details of the agreement have not been disclosed, and will not be made public until after a ratification vote takes place on July 6, then is approved by Essex County Council.
