Encore bet leads to big payday for a Windsor woman

A Windsor woman is $100,000 richer after saying yes to playing Encore on a recent lottery draw.

Cheryl Parent said she always added the $1 Encore feature whenever she played, and the gamble paid off with the Ontario 6-49 draw on May 11. She matched six of the last seven Encore digits to win the feature's second prize of $100,000.

Parent picked up her cheque this week at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. She said she had to do a double-take when checking her ticket, believing at first she had won only $1,000.

"I took a closer look and noticed the number eight, which I thought was a six at initially," said Parent. "It's surreal and shocking."

Parent purchased her winning ticket at Lucky's Lottery Centre on Ottawa Street in Windsor. She plans to travel, pay some bills, and invest her winnings for retirement.

Encore is drawn every day and is playable on any print-off game for an extra $1. There are 22 winning combinations, and matching all seven digits in order is worth the top prize of $1-million.
