Downtown alley revamped with new art installations

Art Alley was unveiled in downtown Windsor Thursday as one of 12 projects funded through the federal government's Healthy Communities Initiative.

The alley between Pelissier Street and Ouellette Avenue was revamped with art installations, graffiti art, and new light installations.

"It's about taking the space and place-making it in a way that brings that vitality to it so that everyone can enjoy it, it's not just the garbage truck going through," said Pat Papadeas with the Downtown Windsor Business Revitalization Association.

The space will be used as an extension to the Downtown Windsor Farmer's Market on weekends but will remain accessible for all businesses and people walking and cycling downtown.

Other projects funded through the initiative include Windsor Public Library's mobile library project and Bike Windsor-Essex's safe cycling project. The 12 projects received $255,000 through the initiative.

The projects were selected through an application process led by the WindsorEssex Community Foundation.
