Registration almost full for golf at Can-Am Police-Fire Games

The turnout is expected to be excellent for the upcoming Can-Am Police-Fire Games in Windsor-Essex, and one event is almost full.

The Can-Am Games golf tournament is set during the six-day event, with two and four-person scrambles scheduled, plus individual competitions. Organizers say there are still a few spots available, but police and fire personnel wanting to participate are urged to register as soon as possible.

Other events are also open to area residents.

"We have space for 150 participants in the 5-K on July 27 at 7 p.m., the 10-K on July 28 at 7 p.m., and the 21-K half-marathon road race on July 30 at 7 a.m.; and space for 75 participants in the Cross Country 5-K on July 27 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the 10K on July 28 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.," said Can-Am Police-Fire Games Manager Jan Wilson. "We think this opportunity to run with and in support of our first responders will be a special memory for a lot of people. And there will be other event opportunities announced soon."

The Games are held every two years in either Canada or the U.S. The events range from the usual athletic competitions like softball, swimming, and track and field, to more participant-specific sports like SWAT competitions and the Toughest Firefighter Alive contest.

Complete information on the Games, which will take place from July 25 to July 31, can be found on their official website.
