Essex County council sets election priorities

As the provincial election campaign continues, the County of Essex has identified six election priorities.

The council made up of mayors and deputy mayors from seven municipalities in the county agreed on six issues they want local candidates to fight for if elected.

They include supporting the new acute care hospital, increased and more stable funding for municipal infrastructure, more funding for affordable housing, faster expansion of broadband internet, financial support for climate change, and reforming laws to reduce municipal insurance costs.

"I think it's very very important that as candidates are knocking on the door and they're asking for support, that [residents] find out exactly what they're party platforms are and then question the candidates to make sure they are willing to push those issues to their party," said Warden Gary McNamara.

The provincial election is on June 2, 2022. Advanced polling opens this week.
