A national honour for a Kingsville landmark

A popular Windsor-Essex tourist destination has won another top national award.

The historic Grove Hotel in Kingsville has been named one of the best small hotels in Canada by TripAdvisor, a website that ranks area hotels, restaurants and attractions. The accommodation ranked third in the country in the Travelers' Choice category, among the best small hotels.

"To be one of only three hotels in Ontario to receive this recognition and to be considered as one of the top 10 per cent of all hotels worldwide is an outstanding accomplishment," said co-operator and owner Jennifer Flynn in a media release. "We are so excited for all of the amazing things that are happening for The Grove Hospitality Group, the future looks very bright indeed."

In addition to the high marks the establishment has been taking from those who use TripAdvisor, the Grove Hotel has also gotten recognition for giving back to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the hotel donated $75,000 worth of free hotel stays for nurses and medical personnel on the front lines of the pandemic. Last year, the hotel launched a company that rents vintage bicycles and e-bikes to people visiting nearby wineries.

The hotel owners are also working on adding two new unique rooms and establishing a new cafe, set to open in downtown Kingsville this fall.

The ranking comes days after ground was broken on a new 28-room motel in neighbouring Colchester, to be owned by the Grove Hotel operators. The retro motel is expected to open in time for the 2023 tourist season.
