Tourism industry bouncing back

Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island is kicking off the unofficial start to tourism season with the release of the 2022/2023 official visitor guide.

TWEPI is also encouraging local residents to discover what's in their own backyard with the return of the Staycation Expo. The Expo at Devonshire Mall features 45 local vendors highlighting local attractions, tour options, wineries and summer festivals. The event runs from May 12-14.

"The return of the tourism and hospitality industry, the reopening of it, has been slow and incremental," said TWEPI CEO Gordon Orr. "What we need is the full recovery but we're nowhere near that yet. This Staycation Expo, this new visitor's guide helps tell our story and we're looking forward to residents embracing that."

Orr said the number one sector of people visiting the region is friends and family of residents. He indicated that's why it's so important for people to know what's available in the region.

"We're better informing the residents of Windsor-Essex so when their family and friends visit them this summer it gets them off the living room couch or away from the dining room table to come out and explore the region," said Orr.

The visitor guide will be distributed throughout the region and can also be found online.
