Strong winds and high waves prompt Shoreline Condition Statement

Strong winds from the northeast have prompted the Essex Region Conservation Authority to issue a warning about shoreline erosion and high waves along the shores of Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair.

The forecast calls for sustained winds reaching 45-50 km/hr and gusts of up to 65 km/hr.

Breakwall structures could be damaged if they sustain a direct hit from waves.

The areas most impacted are along the shore of Lake Erie from Wheatley Harbour to Point Pelee National Park, the east shoreline of Pelee Island, and along Lake St. Clair from the eastern boundary of Windsor east to Ruscom River in Lakeshore.

The shoreline condition statement is in effect until 9 a.m. Sunday, May 8.
