Rain and high lake levels prompt warning

We might get a lot of rain Tuesday afternoon, enough for the Essex Region Conservation Authority to issue a warning but not enough for a flood watch.

Environment Canada said up to 30 mm of rain could fall across Windsor-Essex before it tapers off Tuesday night. Some areas could get up to 35 mm. It issued a special weather statement for a large swath of Southwestern Ontario.

The rain combined with high lake levels has prompted a watershed condition statement.

People should avoid areas known to flood along with rivers, streams, and shoreline areas. The banks could be very slippery while the water moves very quickly. Children, pets, and livestock should stay away from waterways.

There could also be some high waves overtopping shoreline structures.

The statement is in effect until 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.
