On-demand transit comes to Leamington

Leamington residents needing a ride will now be able to get one on-demand.

The Municipality has launched the LTGO on-demand transit service. LTGO, pronounced LT-go, replaces the fixed-route operation that Leamington had been using since 1985.

Unlike a fixed transit route setup, the on-demand method means buses are dispatched on an as-requested basis. The Municipality has created a network of 117 transit stops which greatly expands the operational area.

Mayor Hilda MacDonald said the convenience of the on-demand system is more important than ever as the price of gasoline continues to hit drivers in the wallet.

"Access to reliable and affordable public transportation is critical for those without a car and for our seniors who can no longer drive," said MacDonald. "With rising gas prices and the convenience of transit on-demand, we are confident that our new service will be an attractive transportation option for many."

Director of Infrastructure Services Robert Sharon also stressed the options that are now opened up with the LTGO service.

"On-demand transit will improve mobility for many Leamington residents, and provides a more convenient option for passengers," said Sharon. "It also reduces wait times, expands the transit coverage across the Municipality, and improves service during off-peak hours."

Residents can download the Blaise Transit app on their devices, create an account on the Blaise website, or request a ride by phone at 519-325-5960. Trips must be booked at least 45 minutes before the desired departure time, and can be scheduled up to seven days in advance.

Leamington joins Tecumseh as the other Windsor-Essex community launching this transit system. Tecumseh also uses the Blaise app.

LTGO buses run weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., plus 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays, excluding statutory holidays. Starting May 22, Sunday hours are added from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will run seven days a week through Labour Day.
