State of emergency lifted in Leamington

The Municipality of Leamington is the latest in Windsor-Essex to lift its state of emergency.

The declaration, which had been in place since March 22, 2020, was rescinded on Wednesday. The state of emergency was in effect not only for the COVID-19 pandemic but also because of flooding along the Lake Erie shoreline.

"This is a significant milestone in carefully reopening and connecting our community," said Mayor Hilda MacDonald. "I would like to thank our residents who did their part and followed the health protocols. Although this is a pivotal step in our return to normal, it is important to stress that COVID-19 remains active in Leamington, and I urge residents to continue to self-monitor, wear a mask when appropriate, and stay home when sick."

Like other Windsor-Essex communities, the state of emergency was implemented to allow Leamington to manage its response to the pandemic and mobilize resources.
