A woman in her 90s is the latest Windsor-Essex resident to die from COVID-19.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported the woman's passing Tuesday afternoon, making her the 608th person to die from coronavirus in the region since March 2020. The woman was in the community.
There were 79 new high-risk cases of the virus on Tuesday, and the active caseload currently sits at 361.
As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Windsor Regional Hospital reported 45 people being treated on its two campuses for COVID-19, with 31 admitted primarily for the virus. Out of the 45 patients, 37 of them have been fully vaccinated. There are three patients in intensive care, all of them fully vaccinated.
At Erie Shores Healthcare, the number of patients being treated as of Friday was six, with five of them having COVID-19 as the chief complaint. All except one have been fully vaccinated.
Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare has not reported new patient totals since late March.
The health unit is currently tracking 26 COVID-19 outbreaks, with half of them in long-term care and retirement facilities. Seven outbreaks are in the community, five are in hospital wards, and one is in a workplace.
